Vessel types include, but are not limited to, tank ships; liquified natural gas (LNG)/gas carriers; bulk carriers; container ships; offshore drilling, production, and service units; passenger vessels; and yachts.
Vessels should be under 20 years of age at time of registration. A waiver of the age requirement may be granted depending upon a satisfactory evaluation of the condition, seaworthiness, and usage of the vessel.
Ownership of Djibouti registered vessels must be through a Djibouti business entity. Entities such as corporations, general or limited partnerships, limited liability companies, or qualified foreign maritime entities are sufficient for this purpose.

All commercial vessels are required to be classed by a Classification Society that is recognized by the Djibouti Maritime Administrator. The Registry only uses the major International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) members:

Note: Some exceptions may be made for yachts and fishing vessels; contact us for specifics.
